Creating a happy home for your house plants

Typically, indoor plants enjoy the normal room temperature of 20 - 25 degrees, but be mindful when you turn up the heat or air conditioning. As tropical plants they prefer their air humid and warm - think of a rainforest. If you are able to move your plants away from the air conditioner or away from a draughty window they will appreciate this.

Fast-growing species like the Monstera and Philodendron appreciate room to grow and trail. We recommend to think of your plants fullest potential when deciding where to put them. If you'd rather a more compact plant with a slower growth rate we'd recommend looking at genus such as the Peperomia, Fiddle Leaf Fig and Rubber Plant.

Light and water are two fundamental aspects of plant care, however plants also enjoy regular misting, pruning and leaf care. When bringing plants into your interior, make sure you have the tools you need to ensure their care. We'd recommend purchasing a watering can, mister, pruner and fertiliser for optimum plant health.

Understanding light levels in your home is a great first step in deciding which plants are best for you. As a general rule of thumb, south facing windows give bright light, east/west facing windows give moderate light and north facing windows give low light.

Choosing nature as your biggest interior investment is a bold, yet rewarding challenge. It's an ever evolving piece of art that will grow with your home and experiences. Consider how you might trail plants high and cover walls and stairways, place plants with juxstaposing leaves next to eachother, choose a fast growing species to fill a space in the corner, and most importantly - have fun!
